A Chalkboard obession

It's best that I clear the air.
That i finally come clean about my problem.
So here it goes..

My name is Brittany {Everyone repeat after me, "Hi Brittany"} and I have an addiction to...

Chalkboards!

Oh i love everything about them..

the simple black and white coloring,
the creativity and fun fonts to recreate,
the chalk dust all over my hands....

Oh so perfect.
At any given moment, my Pinterest homepage can look like this.
Everyone's hooked!

 I change my chalkboard almost daily, so I thought it would be so so fantastic to show you some of the fun i've been having with mine!

So you can get inspired, i'll show you the before of my chalkboard.

Dun..dun..dunnnnn.

Ok, not so bad.
It was an old cuttingboard I had found for a few bucks at an antique store a couple years back.

I sprayed it a bunch of times with Krylon's Chalkboard paint, {Found at Lowes}
then "Seasoned" it.

Whenever you use chalk paint, you want to season it before initial use.
This means to cover the whole thing in chalk.
 This is absolutely essential!
If it's not properly seasoned, you will find that there is permanent residue from the first thing that you wrote or drew on it.
And you definitely don't want that on your newly painted chalkboard!

Easy Peasy.

Now onto the fun!

This was my first attempt and I innocently copied it from this card.
{Always give credit where credit is due, peeps.}

After testing the waters, I was ready to dive in and do my own thing!

If you can't think of anything on your own, search Pinterest and Etsy.
Pick and choose fun elements from certain prints and combine to make your own individual piece.
Just go with it.

And if you haven't seen enough chalkboard love...
Check out our Christmas Card this year!

Fun, Fun. Now go out and get/make you one!

WILW-- Feel Good Edition

I don't want to dwell too much on the events of the past week.

Too many tears shed.
So many lives cut short.
Too many questions we don't know the answer to.

So instead of that...I'd like to dedicate this week's

 to..

Happy Things.
Funny Things.
Precious Things.
Things that make us realize that there is still a lot of good in the world.

Like these two.

This is the walrus' reaction to a birthday cake of fish.

Semi-Homemade Potato Soup

I love to cook!

By that I mean...

I love to pin food on Pinterest
&
Watch The Chew
Watch Chopped {Which makes me realize I can't cook}

I can follow a recipe with the best of them...
But there is someone in my family who cooks and cooks well!

My step-mom.
She's like Martha, Rachel, or Sandra Lee

She crafts, cooks, and decorates {perfectly, btw}
Not to mention she's just so thoughtful and the perfect match for my daddio.

If you're on a diet, keep scrolling, because this potato soup recipe is to die for!

Ingredients:
Bear Creek Potato Soup Mix
Small bag of Russet Potatoes
8 oz. block of cream cheese
8 oz. of Velveeta Cheese
4 cups of Milk
8 cups Water
2 TBS of dried minced onion
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
1 can Cream of Celery soup
Sprinkle of crushed red pepper for heat {optional}

Serve With:
Green Onions
Cheddar Cheese
Real Bacon Bits

Directions:

Start by cutting up a small bag of potatoes into bite size pieces and boiling until cooked but still firm.

While potatoes are cooking, boil 8 cups of water and add Bear Creek soup mix.

Cut up Velveeta and Cream Cheese and add to mix.

Add Cream of Celery and Mushroom, Milk, Minced Onion, and Red Pepper {if desired}

 Do you see how much of this delicious soup there is?!

We freeze 3/4 of it.
We recently had some of it that had been in my freezer for 11 months, and it tasted just as good as the day I had first cooked it!

 Slice up a green onion and serve with cheese and bacon bits.

And you are done!

Mmm...Mmm Good!

Ho..Ho..Holiday Decor

I've had Christmas decor up since before Thanksgiving, so I thought you might enjoy a little sneak peek today!

First things first...
The outdoors!

I haven't gotten an entire house shot..but these are some of the little details.

Everything gets monogrammed with an "H" or a "Hodges" around here now adays. :)
Go ahead and refer to me Mrs. Hodges, I love it!

Movin' indoors..

My friend Erica of Tulips and Aprons is an amazing painter, and I ordered this cute little snowman painting from her earlier this Fall! You should check out her blog for all her beautiful work!

Chalkboard is an oldie but goodie! It was a vintage cutting board that I spray painted years ago with chalkboard paint. Since the Chalkboard craze has hit Pinterest--I decided to pull it out of the back of thecloset and join in!

These Santa figurines are my favorite Christmas Decor.
My grandparents used to spend time together woodworking and my grandma would paint their creations. When she passed away last year, my mom passed these little guys down to me. So precious!

{Another creation from my grandparents}

A little festive puppy art!

Ending this perfect night with some Hot Chocolate with Peppermint Marshmallows
& Duck Dynasty reruns.

Will Willie win the lawnmower race? Riveting drama!
